Hello friends, welcome to ELECTRICAL ENCYCLOPEDIA. In this article, we will study about the Non-Linear System & Types of Non-Linearities.
WHAT ARE NON-LINEAR SYSTEM?
In simple words, system which does not posses the homogeneity and superposition properties are called Non-Linear System.
In linear system , the form of output does not depends upon the magnitude of the input. When input increases, output will also increase but form remains same.
For eg- In Linear system, if the input is sinusoidal then output will also be sinusoidal but in Non-Linear System output will be non-sinusoidal.
Dynamic Non-Linearity –If the Input and Output are described by Non Linear Differential Equation then it is called Dynamic Non Linearity.
Static Non-Linearity – If the Input and Output are not described by Differential Equation then it is called Static Non Linearity.
Some common types of Non-Linearities are :
Common Example of Saturation is the relationship between magnetic flux and current in an iron cored coil. An iron cored coil has linear inductance for low value of current but if current increases, core becomes saturate and Inductance becomes non linear.
* Dead Zone
Sometimes output becomes zero when the input crosses the certain value as shown in the figure below. Such type of non-linearities are shown in actuators , dc servomotors etc.
