A summer. Two rivals. A plot twist they didn’t see coming…
Nora Stephens’ life is made up of books, she’s read them all, and she’s not that kind of hero. She’s not the brave one, not the laid-back dream woman, and certainly not the bride. In fact, the only people Nora is a hero to are her clients, for whom she lands big deals as a ruthless literary agent, and her beloved little sister, Libby.
Because of this, she agrees to go to Sunshine Falls, North Carolina during the month of August when Libby invites her on a sisters trip, with visions of a small-town transformation for Nora, who she’s convinced needs to become the heroine in her own story.
But instead of picnicking in the meadows or bumping into a handsome country doctor or bartender with bulging forearms, Nora keeps bumping into Charlie Lastra, a brooding literal city editor. It would be a sweet meeting if they hadn’t seen each other many times and it was never sweet.
If Nora knows that she’s not an ideal heroin, Charlie knows he’s nobody’s hero, but as they come together, in a series of coincidences no publisher worth their salt would allow, she just might discover the carefully crafted stories they’ve written about themselves. .

This book is smart, funny, emotional, romantic and a delight for any book lover. There was much to love.
Nora Stephens is a literary agent who works really hard for her clients. She is career minded, hardworking, a true book lover and a big fan of her little sister Libby. Nora may be successful in her professional life, but romantically she has too often been abandoned by men who left her for a cute country girl, in other words, the complete opposite of Nora.
When Libby convinces Nora to leave her beloved New York City and take her to a small community in North Carolina for a month, Nora agrees. She would do almost anything to make her sister happy. Libby even made a list of things to do to get Nora out of her shell. Bring on the romantic tropes!
While Libby wanted Nora to meet a local and maybe fall in love, Nora keeps bumping into Charlie Lastra, the ambitious, aloof, and brooding editor from New York City. Oh, they already knew each other, but their previous encounters had never been too fluid or screamed anything resembling a romantic connection.
I loved loved loved the chemistry and banter between Nora and Charlie. it was excellent! They were two peas in a pod when it came to ambition and their love of books, and they could fight each other like it was their calling.
This was a wonderful slow-burn romance. As someone who wants anticipation in novels, this one gave me everything I was looking for. It never felt rushed, the author took her time to get it right.
I loved how Emily Henry intertwined popular romantic tropes with her own story. That was such a clever story.
Book Lovers by Emily Henry is essentially the perfect book for book lovers. As I said, I pre-ordered this book in August of last year, around the time I finished People We Meet On Vacation. I’ve been waiting forever to read another book by Henry and I was not disappointed.
As this is the third of Henry’s books I have read, there is something so comforting and familiar about stepping back into one of his novels. The Jokes: I’ve forgotten how much I love jokes; There’s humor, quick-wittedness, and flirtation, all wrapped up in some very clever words.
Fast Love: Characters That Don’t Feel Like Characters In A Life So Real “We Are Humans” The everyday moments that remind me that there is still romance in everyday tasks. The happily ever after that isn’t quite perfect. And a book that makes fun of books.
I loved the “Reader’s Guide Behind the Book” section where I learned the inspiration for this novel. Many readers want to write, but for me it’s the back end of the business that fascinates me: the concept, the process, the editing, the promotion, the sale. This added knowledge of the “how and why” of this book became part of the missing knowledge I crave when I read it.
My only wish when reading Book Lovers is to read it in one sitting. I love that Henry’s books do this to me: they make me want to stop everything in life while I sit and take time for myself and the words between the beautiful covers (have you seen how pretty that cover is ?). Because I long for that feeling: “It’s like reading a really good book: all-consuming, carefree.”
And yes, “the love gods” would be proud!!!
5 stars for a wonderful romantic story where “opposite magnets come together” once again. and they make the stories more interesting if they are well written. And this one definitely delivered.
I’ll admit that I was disappointed by the first 100 pages and wondered what all the fuss and hype was about. Then the book progressed several courses in just a few pages, and I found myself with another one of those “book lovers” who loved “book lovers”. I’d even go so far as to say that this is probably my favorite rom-com novel of the year. Here Are Some Reason why
- We had some serious themes without being the book too heavy, which gave the book depth and the purpose. The themes fit perfectly with the plot and the characters. Sibling relationships, parenting, loss, grief, ambition with a broken and strained relationship at the center of the story.
- A solid romance that builds slowly when two people meet because they’re arch-rivals. The same team as always? It didn’t feel like that. The story delivered the perfect blend of love, sexual tension, and theater without anything being over the top or sentimental.
- The characterization was excellent with all the nice but flawed characters but not the same old flawed traits we read about too often. They felt real and believable.
- The structure of the story inspired hungry page turns and I found myself enthralled and immersed in the story. Nothing felt rushed, not even the two lovers getting between the sheets, which added to the intrigue.
- A brief synopsis of the plot.
Charlie, Nora’s nemesis, comes in many shades. A small town boy looking for a better life in the big city. The book begins with Charlie, this once quiet, unfocused, precocious and resentful boy, who returns as a tough man trying to fit into his childhood home and environment. A place where he had never belonged.
Now take Nora, who returns to North Carolina with her pregnant sister, Libby, who seems to have her own relationship problems. The relationship building between the two sisters was an added add-on to the story that could easily have been just about Charlie and Nora. Adding more plot details would only spoil the surprise, needless to say, Charlie and Nora’s paths cross, collide, and come together as we watch the true soulmates’ futures unravel.
One last thought.
“The tropes, the archetypes, the common plot twists, they all start to organize into a catalog in your brain, broken down by category and genre,” until a story like Book Lovers comes along that adds more meaning and depth with real themes than accompany. that important factor to feel good. Positive aspects that compensated for the very neat and comfortable ending where everything fits perfectly.
